Recultivation works in Chiatura are being successfully carried out

In Chiatura, in the village of Zeda Rgani, the majority of the fruit tree seedlings planted in the biologically recultivated area were alive.

A drip irrigation system will be installed in the mentioned area to create the necessary environment for the development of seedlings.

In 2022, technical recultivation works were completed according to the plan. At this stage, an area of 23 hectares has been biologically rehabilitated, the area will be fenced and trees will be planted as part of the process.

In 2023, 100 hectares of technical and 100 hectares of biological reclamation works are planned.

Until 2017, the disturbed areas as a result of open pit mining in the company amounted to 355.8 hectares, of which only 39 hectares were recultivated, which is only 11% of the total disturbed area, while as of 2022, 49% of the total disturbed area has already been recultivated.

According to the data of 2022, 472.3 hectares of the total disturbed area, which is 956 hectares, has been recultivated. Effective management of the reclamation process was hindered by the fact that there was practically no plan/schedule of reclamation works, as well as the company did not record the recultivated areas and did not collect/process data. At the moment, the company did not have any information about the area covered by the recultivation area and where they are located.

In order to systematically solve the problems, first of all, the entire area was described and the recultivated areas were identified, within the framework of this process it became possible to take an aerial/photograph of the entire Chiatura area with an aerial vehicle and process the received data (aerial photography of the entire area of Chiatura and updating of the data is carried out annually).

The recultivated areas have been fully described and already identified, and the person responsible for each area has been determined, by whom it was cultivated and whose obligation was recultivation, would it be the so-called Chiatura Mining Enrichment Combine or a specific operator. After that, it became possible to create/implement a specific recultivation plan/schedule. After the technical recultivation of the main recultivation areas was carried out (which implies the straightening/stabilization of the area with heavy equipment and the creation of the appropriate relief), the stage of biological reclamation also began actively.
