A large-scale ecological project is underway in Chiatura. The Kvirila River is being cleaned from mud precipitated during decades.
Within the framework of the first stage of the project, approximately 60,000 m³ of mud was removed from the riverbed, which would be stored in a special, protected area. Mud removed from the river in the mentioned area will be stored in compliance with the relevant rules until the completion of the project. In the future, it will be possible to use it in recultivated areas to enrich the soil.
In order to prevent pollution related to the transportation of the sludge removed from the bed during the works, the Chiatura cleaning service was working uninterruptedly.
The project of cleaning the river from sludge was developed by highly qualified foreign specialists, which we are implementing with the help of heavy equipment and manpower.
The second, final stage of the works will begin in the summer.
According to the decision of the special manager of the state, Nikoloz Chikovani, the project is being implemented within the framework of the environmental protection policy of Georgian Manganese.
